Design and Technology
At Fair Furlong Primary School we provide hands on, exciting opportunities to engage in the Design and Technology curriculum. During DT we aim to deliver fun and hands on DT lessons. Working safely is a big focus of DT. During the study of DT pupils learn how to safely use tools and materials so they can apply this to their practical tasks. Each topic will take pupils through the process of researching, designing, making and evaluating a range of products. In our school pupils have access to a wide range of tools to develop their practical skills from an early age. We study cooking and nutrition, textiles, pneumatics, structures, and mechanisms. Children in the early years also have the opportunity to develop these early skills through hands on learning as soon as they enter nursery. They are exposed to a range of tools and materials throughout the day.
At lunch time we provide a fun and exciting woodwork club where pupils have the opportunity to work with a range of materials and tools such as drills, hammers and saws to produce a higher finished product. So far the children have made bird houses, which are now in our forest, reindeers at Christmas time and bug hotels. There are many more exciting things to be made, so what this space!
