League and cup events

Boys' Football Team
This week was our boys football teams turn to kick their season off. They competed in the EFL Cup at Bristol Imperial Sports Ground. This was our teams first tournament together and considering they have never played together they were fantastic. There were some star performances from our pocket rocket Vinnie Neale and a solid show from Kamari Amollo. We are very proud of the boys and their sportsmanship shone through. In the coming weeks they also have their qualifier match in the Coronation Cup against Elmlea so keep an eye out for more from our boys.

Year 6 Boys Football Team - League

Another fantastic week for sport at Fair Furlong. This time competing in our first home game in football for many years. Although it was not the result the boys were hoping for, we are all so extremely proud of them! Filip Wilk our goalkeeper received man of the match with some outstanding goalkeeping. It was also great to have parents back on site supporting the children and created a real buzz on site! Well done boys and keep it up!

Year 6 Boys Football Team & Year 5/6 Girls Football Team – League

Our girls and boys football 1st team both competed in the South Bristol League this term. The boys had a cracking game against Broomhill, showing some fantastic team spirit and resilience. Our strikers Beau Lilley and Mahmoud Etayari were out in force against a very strong goalkeeper and created some brilliant opportunities. Ford Griffin took player of the match with his pure energy in defence.

Our girls’ team, who have only played together a few times since Christmas, had a strong game bringing home a 6-0 against Oasis Connaught. The girls are really working hard together as a team and their focus on resilience is really paying off. Isabelle Sullivan was an absolute force on the field making some brilliant tackles and received player of the match.

Coronation Cup Quarter Finals

This week our Year 6 boys football team played their match against West Town Lane in the quarter finals of the Coronation Cup. It was also the boys first match in their new kits and tracksuit, which they felt very proud in. The boys started strong going 1-0 up and kept their defence tight. However West Town Lane proved too strong with their Bristol Academy players and took the lead in the second half to win. Regardless we are extremely proud of our boys taking Fair Furlong to this stage of the cup which never has been achieved at our school before!

Bristol Flyers Cup Tournament

This event has been our school biggest achievement so far in sport and words cannot describe how proud we are of our team. Earlier in the year, our basketball team placed joint first in the South Bristol League. As a result, the team were invited to compete in the Flyers Cup at the SGS Centre (home of Bristol Flyers Basketball – BBL), this included the top teams from Bristol and South Gloucestershire. Our children managed to place 3rd, which is just a fantastic achievement. A special mention must also go to Ava Fry, who was scouted for the Bristol Flyers Junior Girls Team.

Year 6 Boys Football Team – League

Our boys were at it again against West Town Lane but this time in the South Bristol League. The boys put in a sterling effort with a last minute change at goalie. Ford Griffin took the mantle of wearing the gloves and managed to keep West Town Lane from running away with the game. The referee from Bristol City FC had lots of positive things to say about this amazing group of lads. They have come such a long way in such a short amount of time and have done a sterling effort in representing our school.
