Term 1

This term we have based our writing on the book ‘Planet Omar’. We have written diary entries from Omar’s perspective and have also written mystery stories; using ideas from the book. In Geography, we have been looking at the area we live in. We have found out about geographical features around us. We have been lucky enough to explore Dundry Hill in Bristol. We looked at human and physical features and sketched the landscape. In Science, our topic has been all about the life cycle of plants. We have explored plants to investigate and observe water transportation. In art, we have carried out outstanding art work, the children have experimented with different materials and tools to explore warm and cool colours, and techniques, to create art.

In Spanish we have learned how to count to 10, ask how someone is and introduce ourselves and tell others are name.

This term, we visited Cheddar Gorge to inspire our learning. In our literacy learning, we started with writing a time-slip story about meeting a Stone Age person in the modern day. More recently, we have been writing a recount about our Stone Age day at the beginning of term. We have also really enjoyed reading ‘Stig of the dump’ by Clive King. In History, we have been looking at what life was like in Prehistoric Britain. Our science topic has been ‘Classifying rocks’. Where we have performed an experiment exploring the texture and absorbency of soils.

In Spanish, we learned how to introduce ourselves, ask how someone is feeling and count from 0-10 in Spanish. In RE, we have learned how Christians celebrate Christmas.

Term 3

This term, in our literacy learning, we started with writing an instruction text based on George’s Marvelous Medicine. Following that, we had a go at writing our own version of the story, changing some of the characters. We have absolutely loved reading Roald Dahl’s George’s Marvelous Medicine and hearing how George punished his cruel Granny! In Geography, we have been looking at ‘countries, mountains & headlands.’ Our science topic has been ‘animals including humans’. Where we have explored how important our skeletons are for protecting our organs, supporting our bodies and helping us move.

Term 4
This term, in our literacy learning, we started with narrative writing based on ‘Marcy and the riddle of the Sphynx.’ We loved reading this book for the amazing opportunities it gave for exciting setting description and the Egyptian gods. In history, we continued the Egyptian theme exploring the question ‘What was life like for an ancient Egyptian?’ We were also lucky enough to go Bristol Museum to learn all about ancient Egypt. In science, this term, we have been learning about forces. In maths we have been looking at the four times table, the eight times table, dividing by four, and using column addition.
