Welcome to Stockholm class

Stockholm is the capital city of Sweden. At the beginning of the year the children of Stockholm Class carried out some research on this amazing city and found out that their underground system is known as the world's largest art gallery. It is also a city made from several islands.

Below you can find the link to the Google Classroom log in page, which once logged in you will be able to access all the learning for the week, including the weekly homework.

Term 5

What have we been learning?

This term the children have thoroughly enjoyed our topic of Explorers. The children have been assessing whether they themselves would survive a polar expedition to Antarctica. In order to answer this, we have researched previous explorers, interviewed a current explorer, analysed the equipment that we would have to take with us, learnt about Antarctica and its climate and landscape and discussed what type of strengths an explorer should have – both physically and emotionally.

In maths this term, the children have revisited fractions, decimals and percentages as well as solving problems relating to shape, space and measure.

Wow moments:

At the beginning of this term, the children enjoyed participating in a Polar Explorer Day where we had a visit from an accomplished explorer – Anthony Jinman. We made blubber gloves to experience the protection provided to the animals from their blubber and mountains and gloop to explain an avalanche and glaciers.

This term the children have participated in an RE day where we learned all about a Muslim place of worship – a Mosque. The children looked inside a virtual mosque and researched the routines and rituals that take place. We then transferred our information into a fact file that is now part of a classroom book.

Practise SATs week was a stressful but successful week for our children where their eagerness to do well and maturity really shone through! We are so proud of all of you and the hard work you have put into your learning over the last 5 terms! Well done!

Term 4

What have we been learning?

This term the children have thoroughly enjoyed our topic of World War II. Even though the beginning of our term was slightly disrupted by home learning, the children have learnt an impressive amount across the whole curriculum. The children have written an emotional story of a solider, which accompanies a video of his life. The children have also imagined themselves as evacuees in history and have found researching the key events and learning about the survivors of WWII fascinating!

In maths this term, the children have revisited place value, as well as having a focus on fractions and ratio. There has been a particular focus on explaining our understanding in maths this term and we have been incredibly impressed with their progress!

Wow moments:

At the beginning of this term, the children in school enjoyed an evacuee day. We made gas masks, filled out our identity cards and packed our suitcase, ready for evacuation!

Virtual World Book Day was a highlight for many of our children this term and it was wonderful to hear lots of exciting discussion around our book, The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse. We also loved seeing your dressed up household item!

This term the children have started using our brand new fitness trackers. They have loved being more active and we are really looking forward to continuing to increase our activity levels even further next term.

Term 3

School Learners

We would like to say a huge thank you to all of the school learners. We have been so impressed with your engagement and motivation this term, particularly when learning about our topic. It has been great to see you apply your growing understanding of the rainforest and include many of those elements in your writing. We have also been completely blown away with your positive mindset during some of our more difficult math’s topics, you have all shown that you have resilience and determination and we hope to see it continue in term 4.

Home Learners

We would also like to say a massive thank you to the home learners and the adults that have been supporting. The children that have been consistently engaged have produced some fantastic work and have been extremely creative, particularly in topic. Hopefully we will all be back together in school very soon, but you have proven to us and yourselves that you will make the best of either situation and stay fully dedicated to your learning. Well done!

TERM 2

Our children had 2 special dino themed events this term. Our first was a workshop where the children became paleontologists and excavated dinosaur fossils. They then had a mystery to solve when snowy dino footprints and slay tracks were found in the hall! To say the children have enjoyed this topic would be an understatement!

This term our children created a piece of writing on what made the Tyrannosaurus Rex history’s greatest apex predator. Their writing was outstanding and the children showed some brilliant examples of year 6 writing! They also used the Christmasaurus and the White Witch to create their own version of an adventure story. The excitement around this part of term was amazing, with some extremely creative setting and character description being produced!

In maths this term the children extended their knowledge of fractions. They showed a great amount of resilience in maths this term and are becoming brilliant mathematicians!

The children were also finally able to start swimming! It was great to see so many children, whether they were excited or nervous, turning up with a fantastic level of enthusiasm. We were all very proud of them and cannot wait to see their progress develop over this year.

Also a big shout out to Stockholm class in relation to their attendance! You have had over 5 weeks of 100% attendance, can Cardiff and Beijing beat them next term?

TERM 1
This term year 6 have thoroughly enjoyed exploring the book ‘Here We Are’ by Oliver Jeffers. We compared and innovated the text using the story of Pandora’s Box. We have also used a character from the book, to write a diary entry as if we were all stressed out teachers! Finally, we have written a non-chronological report about the panda, who also appeared in our text.

In maths we have revised our place value understanding, addition and subtraction as well as multiplication and division. The children have worked exceptionally hard and we have been very impressed with their resilience and perseverance!

During our science learning this term we have been able to develop our understanding of life cycles, where the children created their own life cycle of a chosen animal. This term we have also enjoyed rehearsing our harvest song and working together as a year group to collect donations. PE this term allowed the children to practise invasion games, which also encouraged their team work!
