Welcome to Seoul class

Seoul is the biggest city of the Republic of Korea (South Korea), and its capital. Its official name is Seoul Special City.

It has a population of 10 million ( that’s 25 times more than Bristol! The weather in Seoul is similar to Bristol and they have four seasons.

Term 6

We are so proud of the year 1 children for their effort and perseverance this term. We have seen great jumps in their phonics knowledge and reading levels and we are impressed with the phonics-screening outcome. They have worked extremely hard at home and in class, please keep this up over the summer. They have really grasped our topic this term. They have enjoyed learning about the weather and using field knowledge skills. The children have explored different areas to explore key features in the area. They have made maps of the local areas and identified shops, roads and houses.    

They have enjoyed learning about the three little pigs and creating their own kenning poem this term. They have worked hard to include exclamation marks, precurrsive hand writing and continued to work on writing on the line, capital letters and full stops. We have seen huge progress in their writing.

They have produced amazing work in mathematics; addition and subtraction, time, money and place value within 100. Lots of the children can count in 1’s to 100. Keep up the fantastic practise at home achieving this. The children have enjoyed counting in 2’s, 5’s and 10’s.

They have also shown superb skills whilst carrying out golf lessons using golf clubs and targets. We have been very proud of their musical skills when singing hymns and medleys.

Term 5

We are so proud of the year 1 children for their determination to succeed this term. We have seen great jumps in their phonics knowledge and reading levels. They have worked extremely hard at home and in class. They have really grasped our topic this term. They started the term with Fizz Pop Science demonstrating different weathers and seasons, they’ve made snow, explored our weather role play areas and investigated different weathers throughout the term. The children found out that it is mainly rainy in England in spring, but it can also be hot and snow.  

They have joined Sunny in the Kalahari Desert to explore different weathers and amply their news skills to stories about Sunny. They have learned how to use the prefix un, exclamation marks, precurrsive hand writing and continued to work on writing on the line, capital letters and full stops.

They have produced amazing work in mathematics; exploring mass, volume and capacity, multiplication and fractions. They have also shown superb music skills whilst carrying out lessons using xylophones. Additionally, they have suggested different ways to improve the school so all areas can be used in all weathers and seasons.

Well done Year 1 keep up the hard work!

Term 4

We are so proud of the year 1 children for their effort, enthusiasm and resilience. They have been fantastic in returning to school and trying their best in all areas of their learning and behaviour. They have done fantastically in carrying out their learning and exploring trees and plants in our school.

They have sailed their boats to where the wild things are and joined in the ‘rumpus’ to learn the story of The Wild Things. They have written brilliantly punctuated sentences that have included adjectives, verbs and suffixes!

They have produced amazing work in mathematics; exploring number and place value, length and height of objects and the mass of objects. They have mastered using a ruler to help them to accurately measure different things in their classroom. They have shown superb art and designing skills within this topic. They have made beautiful capes on Red Nose Day by joining different materials together.

Well done Year 1 we are extremely proud of you!

Term 3

Year 1 have impressed us with their effort, enthusiasm and resilience.

They have done fantastically in carrying out their learning and exploring, Why the Great Fire of London was ‘Great’. They have travelled back in time to 1666 and designed and carried out investigations into Tudor houses, and wrote brilliant punctuated sentences in the forms of recounts, diary entries and bibliographies!

In science children have looked at the different materials Tudor’s used to make houses in 1666 to what we use today.

In maths we have looked at number and place value. Children have used number lines and part part whole models to add and subtract different amounts.

In literacy year 1 have explored Vlad and The Great Fire of London. They have explored Samuel Pepy’s diary and bibliography. They have been using adjectives and verbs to make their writing even better. They have been using key skills such as finger spaces, full stops and capital letters. This term Year 1 have used how to ask a question, use a question mark and write a question sentence. 

Year 1 have had the opportunity to take part in online PE sessions with Mr Stephens and experience music lessons with Mr Heaps.

They have shown superb art and designing skills within this topic, Big Art Day and DT Day.

Additionally the have shown an outstanding awareness of keeping themselves safe whilst using online learning.

Term 2
This term Year 1 has been exploring toys from the past and present. They have played with old and news toys and compared what is different and what is the same. The children loved playing with the Victorian toys, especially the puppets.

In science children have looked at the seasons and have made wind socks to investigate if the wind always blows in the same direction.

In maths we have looked at our tens and ones and have been finding different amounts and comparing which is the greatest, smallest and which amounts are equal to each other. Year 1 have also been on 2D and 3D shape hunts.

In literacy year 1 have explored Dogger and how it feels to lose toys. The children invented their own toy and used lovely adjectives to describe it.

Year 1 has taken part in some exciting events this term. They have been involved in a cross country competition in PE, made their own toy cars in design and technology, sang and performed beautifully in the school nativity, they have made their own winter wonderland window display, and they have enjoyed our Christmas story day, where they made their own nativity and learned about the story of Christmas.

Term 1

This term Year 1 have been learning about animal groups and what they eat. Ask your child what is a herbivore, carnivore and omnivore!

In literacy, the children have blasted off into space and found an alien, they have helped him to learn about different animals, their names and where they live. They have created a birthday party for the alien by writing lists, such as, shopping lists, invite lists and present lists.

In maths, we have started the year by looking at place value. We have counted to and from 20. We have explored one more and one less. We have represented numbers in different ways and explored the language more than, less than, fewer than, greater than and equal to, to compare different amounts. The children have started to use addition to partition amounts.
